At Cantwell our American flag is currently
flying upside down. I intend no disrespect or offense to the
flag or to any person – and especially none to the military
– those who have given and are giving their lives for
MY freedom. I have the same emotional response as others when
I see that flag upside down. The flag, as you also know, is
a symbol. More important, of course, than any symbol is that
which it symbolizes. In this case it is you and me - the people
of this the greatest nation the world has ever known, and we
are in grave danger of becoming oppressed and subjugated –
not to mention, bankrupt. Since the U.S. Flag Code allows for
the flag to be flown upside down, I think it is not too much
to ask that we vary only slightly the original application of
the “distress” code and thereby USE our own symbol
(the flag) to call attention to our plight and maybe in some
way help us to recover and once again fly the flag right side
up and with the pride that it deserves.
